Complaint Resolution Index (CRI) Explained The Complaint Resolution Index (CRI) is an indicator on how responsive a company is in addressing and resolving customer complaints brought to their attention by BCA. This company advertises on their website that they are able to settle debts for far less than the amount owed and that the process is more effective than those provided by credit counseling services. Our experience with similar offers is that creditor collection calls are difficult to stop and that the actual settlements, if any, may be less than represented.

The company charges a retainer fee of 1% of the total debt and a $400 set-up fee to commence services. Also, after any settlements are agreed to and paid, the company charges 25% of the difference between the creditors claim and the settlement amount as fees. Companies like this rely on negotiating with the creditors for a lump sum payment, which generally requires the consumer to withhold payments for an extended period of time. Also, the fees for these services are generally required to be paid in advance before any services are performed. It is during this time that the creditors will likely take steps to secure payment, such as: telephone calls, derogatory credit reporting, arbitrations or law suits. For the foregoing reasons, we advise caution in dealing with debt negotiation/settlement companies.
