Good morning, I purchased 2 packs of cigarettes at family dollar this morning at 09:11am, and was told by the clerk that she needed to see my ID. And she scanned it. According to this women this policy
is required before selling anyone cigarettes. Mind you, I am 60 years old, will be 61 in Jan. I asked if they were having trouble with kids trying to buy cigarettes, her was reply was " No, we were told we have to scan everyone's ID who purchases cigarettes, it is a new policy " I became upset, and told her this is unacceptable, identity theft is a concern here. Management should not be doing this . They could be involved in a class action Lawsuit. I don't mind showing my ID for verification of age, but not scanning it. They have no business keeping my data. I can understand if someone was suspected of being under age. But not regular customers who are way over 21 years of age. I regret allowing her to scan my data. I am somewhat suspicious of their motives for doing this. They Should Stop this practice. I will not shop there again, if I have to give my ID to be Scanned each time I purchase cigarettes. This lady said they would scan it on each visit when purchasing cigarettes. I have been shopping at this store off and on since they opened few years ago, and never had this problem. Please investigate. I feel there may be some hidden agenda. The only company that has scanned my IDvis the Bank and my Employers. Dollar General should not have my data or anyone'
