Business a scam beware of their scare tactics.

I definitely believe that this is a total scam. Acting like a collection agency not very well at all. Very easy to tell they are just looking for an easy mark to pay a false debt immediately or will file suit against you. Very hard to get their address, As far as professionally collecting a debt you can tell the do not want you to know who they are. The names were wrong, the debt was with a bank we never do business with (though very well known) They had a case number that they mention & threaten to file suit if asked an questions at all. I tried to file a complaint in California, but to no avail.
I do know that my state takes these complaints seriously, the collection co has to be bonded in my state, and I Believe the FCC will take a complaint seriously as well. This is a scam & it made me very mad by even calling me. I am still angry, because I know that if by a percentage they will get away with getting their hands on the money they say they are going to file suit on. They gave me a figure of 17,709.00. Definitely filing complaint with my state & the FCC.

Please beware of anyone that will not even give the company's name, responding at 1st that they do not have an address to mail them a protest letter or proof of who they are. So far this is all I can do as far as I know in California. But I do know it is a criminal offense in my state, so as soon as I have time I am going to file a complaint.

Moral Terpitude is the name of their game

Let me start by saying that I have 726 credit with Transunion and Experian.

Steinberg and Associates buy very old junk debts. Most of which have either already been paid or are beyond the Statute of Limitations (SOL). They placed a hard inquiry on my TransUnion report on April 15, 2013 for a debt that I paid off in full in 2005. When I called to ask about the unauthorized and illegal hard inquiry I got a Pam Jones with Steinberg and Associates on the phone. She demanded that I pay the debt or provide proof that it had been paid. Calmly, I informed her that she was in direct violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692g Sec. 809 (b) that her claim is disputed and validation is requested. I sent a VOD letter on April 25th and got no response.

I called Steinberg and Associate today because the hard inquiry was still on my TU report. Scott answered. I asked for their address. He hemmed and hawed and then passed me to Pam Jones with Steinberg and Associates. She said one moment and left me on hold for 10+ minutes. I called back only to get Scott again. I asked for their address. He stalled. I asked if he could at least verify their Irvine address I got on the internet and he refused. He did not give any information and said he would have his manager call me back.

Steinberg and Associates is your typical junk debt buyer. They use aggressive tactics to scare people in to paying them even if the debt has been paid or is beyond the SOL. When they deal with someone who is savvy with credit they play cat and mouse. Pathetic!

Pam Jones and EVERYONE associated with Steinberg and Associates are unscrupulous and unprincipled. All I wanted was a valid mailing address and they refused. Well congratulations, I am filing formal complaints with the FCRA, FDCPA and all 3 credit bureaus regarding your nefarious activities!
